Early life and start-up career
During his formative years, he was raised in a family that strongly believed in social activism and held communist ideologies. His journey in the professional world commenced in the field of information technology, where he worked as a software engineer. However, he soon found himself drawn towards the world of cinema, and with the guidance of his uncle, Posani Krishna Murali, he embarked on a new path as a screenwriting assistant for various films. As his passion for storytelling grew, he eventually made his way into the Telugu film industry, initially showcasing his talent as a dialogue writer for notable movies including Okkadunnadu, Munna, Brindavanam, and Oosaravelli.
Film directorial career
In the year 2013, he ventured into the world of film direction and marked his debut with the blockbuster movie Mirchi, featuring the talented Prabhas in the lead role. The film received tremendous success at the box office, solidifying his position as a promising director in the industry. Two years later, in 2015, he took the helm of another project, the action-packed drama Srimanthudu. This film too proved to be a commercial triumph, further elevating his reputation as a director. Not only did Srimanthudu achieve remarkable box-office numbers, but it also garnered critical acclaim, earning him numerous prestigious accolades. Among these accolades are three Filmfare Awards South, six IIFA Awards, and six SIIMA Awards, a testament to his exceptional directorial skills and the immense impact his work has had on the industry.
In 2016, Koratala Siva directed the film Janatha Garage, which featured renowned actors Mohanlal and N. T. Rama Rao Jr. The plot revolves around the operations of a prominent automobile service center called “Janatha Garage,” where a group of skilled mechanics take on law enforcement duties due to the perceived inadequacy of legal agencies. Upon its release, the film achieved massive success, grossing an estimated ₹140 crore and earning a distributor’s share of ₹70 crore within its first week. This marked Koratala’s third consecutive triumph as a director. Following this, he embarked on his next project, Bharat Ane Nenu, a political action drama film starring Mahesh Babu. Once again, Koratala surpassed expectations, as the film raked in a staggering ₹164 crore at the box-office, further solidifying his impressive streak of successful films.
At the beginning of 2020, Koratala embarked on the exciting journey of directing his next project, Acharya, which featured the dynamic duo of Chiranjeevi and Ram Charan as the lead actors. After months of hard work and dedication, the film finally hit the screens in April 2022. Unfortunately, to the disappointment of both the director and the audience, Acharya failed to impress the critics and received predominantly negative reviews. Koratala is currently working on his next directorial venture, which stars the talented NTR Jr and is titled Devara. This film marks their second collaboration after the highly successful Janatha Garage. The project is being produced by Nandamuri Kalyan Ram and Mikkilineni Sudhakar under their respective banners, N. T. R. Arts and Yuvasudha Arts.
